Land Pride vs Woods Pulverizer: Which is better?

I have seen the term "pulverizer" several times. Could someone enlighten me as to exactly what it is? I will be putting a lawn in this fall, ground is currently clay and stones - I intend to use a rotary tiller and box scraper for leveling. Is a pulverizer something I should also be considerin?

Pulverizer is a horizontal I beam with ~6" spikes (about 27 of them on 5 ft unit) sticking down. Unit is very heavy (about 500 lbs on 5 ft unit) to push spikes into ground. It breaks up top 2 - 6" of soil depending on hardness and demolishes any vegetation. I have a 5 ft unit, it also helps level and works very well. One rec. is buy a unit in which teeth (spikes) are achored to I beam via straight bolts and not U bolts. Spikes loosen with U bolts and you will start to leave them in the dirt and spikes are $3-4 each. Otherwise, I don't know of any other differences. I believe Landpride eqpt is overpriced and overrated. Look elsewhere IMO.

You might want to consider renting a power box rake (Harley) to use with your tractor for this job. This machine removes rocks as it pulverizes the soil and places the rocks in a windrow to the side. (You have to pick the rocks up by hand.) It is made specifically for turning semi-rough soil into a fine seedbed for turf. You can see one attached to a Kubota 2710 on the Kubota Source Site or Carver Site. It is also on the site www.daveheath.com under Harley or Glenmac. However, the heath site is temporarily down. Another option is the standard soil pulverizer with either one or two rollers. To see one, go to the Woods site (www.woodsonline.com) under the turf and landscape tools category.
