Kubota 4310 vs. John Deere 4610

Hi there, I'm new to tractorpoint and new to tractors. I'm looking for opinions on Kubota 4310 hydro with loader vs. JD 4610 Hydro with loader. I will be buying new, Kubota dealer 23 miles away, JD dealer 7 miles away. I am not mechanically inclined, need tractor that will be trouble free, if there is such a thing. Wife has 4 horses and we've never owned a tractor. Ground driven manure spreader behind a Jeep Grand Cherokee is an odd sight, but it works.
Anyways, building a new house. 800 foot driveway to keep clear in winter. Live in lake effect snow zone off Lake Erie. 10-12' snow a year.
Will brush hog pasture. Use post hole digger, maybe backhoe in the future.
I don't want to undersize and find out that I should have gone bigger. But, because the horses and my wife's interst and not mine, she will probably be driving it often.
Local Kubota dealer told me $22,000 for the L4310 with loader.
Which tractor will hold up better for next 20-30 years. Unlikely I'll ever buy another one?
Thanks for your thoughts.

You missed a couple of points, how much land and what amounts of each type of work. Many people prefer the glideshift transmission for bush hogging. There are more Kubota's that are 20 plus years old still out in the field than have been retired to the bone yards.

Thanks Art, I did forget those specifics. The pasture that will be brush hogged is about 8-10 acres. It was a corn field and isn't overgrown with anything. So it is just tall grass that needs trimmed back a couple of times a year for the horses. The bucket will be for cleaning out stalls, maybe plowing the driveway. Or should I think about a snowblower or back blade. House is on top of a hill where there a lot of wind that will blow close the driveway.

Not getting into the pricing I would think that you are going more than enough for horsepower and the size of the tractor. You could drop to the 3130 and do fine in the same weight class.

Generally choosing the size of a tractor is a saw-off between how much is going to be spent and how much time to do the work is needed. Small and large both do the same jobs but small tractors take longer unless the work requires a lot of maneuvering.

Despite these generalities, there are jobs that will stop a tractor cold and the description of the work to be done contains several. The first is cleaning out stalls. Small and maneuverable is good here and a big tractor may not work at all. A second problem might be encountered if you're getting hay delivered. Large round bales from some suppliers can't be managed very well by any sized compact.

Anyway, if there is a need to move large bales around it could be tough to fine one tractor that's good for both the hay and the stalls. I believe my used tractor came to my dealer from an owner who used it for general maintenance for years before starting a hobby farm livestock operation and finding the tractor wouldn't manage the hay bales he was getting so he traded up to a farm tractor.
