There're many things I haven't heard of and an electric backhoe would be one of them. Hope I understood correctly. I did see a hoe on an ATV last summer and wonder what powered it, so maybe that was the type of hoe mentioned.

Trouble shooting is possible without a wiring diagram, but a diagram simplifies the work a lot. Even if a person knows all components in a circuit, diagrams are useful since they identify wire colour codes and connector pin locations. Finding a diagram would be very good.

I imagine that the attempt to find voltage present at a switch was done with the switch off and that the line and load switch terminals were known. In that case, one terminal should read zero and the other battery voltage.

If one side of switch does have battery voltage, then the question is whether voltage is getting to the motor. The easiest test procedure for this question is to remove the hot lead from the motor and test the line for battery voltage (with the switch on of course). While the motor is disconnected, the resistance from the motor hot terminal to ground can be measured. The reading should be low, because motors have little resistance. A good tech manual would give expected resistance and voltage readings at various points, and finding a tech manual that has a wiring diagram would be even better.

b20 backhoe won't move side to side

Just surfing and saw the post on the B20 with no backhoe boom swing. Same thing happened to me, what I eventually found I had done was crimped the wire going to the auto return set up on the hoe. This has caused a short which then didnt allow the boom to swing sidways. I am sure you have gotten it figured out by now. I squashed the wire during putting on the backhoe. Hope this helps.

Has anybody had a problem with the Powersteering on a B20?Mine is leaking fluid up through the steering shaft, I know I have blown a seal in there and am about to rip it out. Any advise, looks straight forward to get out once the gas tank is removed.

Thanks bob S

It might be a good time to get a repair manual just to make sure the procedure doesn't have unforeseen complications. I wouldn't count on it being exactly straightforward.

I'm making an assumption that the seals couldn't be replaced with the sector in place--by removing the column, the sector top cover and sliding everything up the steering shaft. On my Ford, there still would be several seals and quite a few other parts just on the shaft above the ball-nut gear. The PS relief valve and other parts also are there. Disassembly of the sector would get into an even larger number of other parts. I'd need a puller for the steering wheel, maybe one for the pitman arm, a special tool for setting the shaft pre-load and maybe a bunch of other stuff.

Bob S. labeled the only thing we have found to go wrong there but a couple of years have passed and a switch could be bad. Don't look for a hydralic problem until you check out the electrics. Bob to answer your problem you are headed in the right direction on your steering problem.
