I have a used (165 hrs) B1700 HST with LA301 loader. Tractor has loaded turf tires. Also have 6 foot Landpride rake. All equipment was purchased new in July of 96. Tractor was always garaged and is in "like new" condition.I'd like to sell all because landscaping work on new home is completed, and I'm looking to move to the BX series.Would appreciate advice as to worth of tractor with loader and rake.

Just wondering why the B1700 does not fit your needs now but the BX would??? The only significant difference between them as I see it is the Ground Clearance which is mostly a function of tire and wheel size. Could you tell us what size property and driveway length you have, and how much you are mowing? It would be great to hear from someone the details of why one of the smallest compacts is just not small enough. Please help us out here.

In terms of value in 1999 the B1700 4wd hsd was going for about 11200 plus 2700 for the loader. Unfortunately for you the 2000 B7500 has all the features of the B1700 plus 21 hp instep of 17 for about 2k less for the tractor. So I think you will probably take a 3k hit to sell this to get a BX. Another reason why I am curious as to why the B1700 is too big but the BX is OK, they are the same length and width, but ground clearance differences may be useful if you have hills.

 Used B1700 value

Webmaster,

Thanks for pricing information. It agrees with what I was thinking. I had been told about the 15-20% loss of value by the dealer earlier this year. I paid $14,700 for the tractor, loader, and 6' Landpride rake initially. I feel $10,500 to $11,000 is a fair price for my B1700 considering hours and "always garaged" condition.

Th size of the driveway is not the issue. I'm looking to consolidate a lawn tractor and the B1700 into a single unit. My B1700 with loaded tires is too big and too heavy to do the job. Unfortunately the BX may not be the answer for me either.

Please understand, I LOVE my B1700!! It has done very well by me, but I really don't need it's capabilities very often at this point. I thought if I could get a smaller version of my B1700 that I could use to mow AND get a front mount two stage snowblower with the capability of adding other implements I would be ahead of the game. I clearly understand that the BX is NOT as much tractor as the B series but I suspect it's more than I need at this point. In fact the Carver website posts a warning to that effect to potential 1st time buyers.

FYI - I am mowing with a Simplicity Broadmoor (18HP, 50" deck with Turbo Blower/Bagger). It cost about 1/2 as much as a BX with a deck but is NO WHERE NEAR the same quality. The Simplicity does do a wonderful job of mowing except for a lack of traction (I have some steep slopes to mow).

At this point I'm still undecided as to what I'll do. I have been invited to visit another CTB member who traded his B1700 for a BX earlier this year. I'll get his pro's and con's to help me decide.

I've been in love with tractors ever since I can remember so any excuse to look at, investigate, read about, or talk about tractors is very enjoyable.

BTW - Do you know if there is a front mount snowblower available for the B1700? I've never seen one advertised.

Thanks again for your help.

Harry, I have seen front mounted snowblowers on the B series, They look like they are about 60" WIDE with a two stage blower and what looks like about 18" height, looked very serious. The one I saw was on a B2100 so I think it would fit the B1700 as well. The dealer I was at said that on the BX series Kubota made a Quick connect feature that made it very simple to put the blower on, implying that it was a bigger deal on the B series machines. If you have a driveway longer than 500 feet driving forwards can be a plus, although sometimes I wish my back was turned the other way when the wind blows the snow back at me from the chute. By the way how many acres of grass do you have that you feel the B1700 is too much.

My driveway is wide but not very long. It sounds like the B series snowblower is way overkill for me. Northern Tool's Fall/Winter 2000 master catalog has several three point Cat 1 blowers that would probably work fine for my needs should I decide to go that route. I have even considered a rear mount scraper blade for those hard to reach places (like in front of the garage).

The "quick connect" feature on the BX is a plus, but probably only if you have several implements that mount this way and exchange them frequently (e.g. snowblower, blade and sweeper).

For a B1700 my lawn size is really too small. I mow about 3/4 of an acre with several trees, shrubs, and other items my wife deems important for a proper looking yard.

The BIG issue with the B1700 is tire size and overall tractor weight. I have loaded turf tires which I like for the loader operation, but they beat up the lawn too much. Initially I bought the B1700 to move dirt, rocks, and wood which it has done VERY well. Also the turning radius is an issue. I am concerned that the BX (even without loaded tires) may present the same types of problems. My 500 pound "lawn tractor" obviously doesn't present this problem. Also the 50" deck and 16" turning radius works great EXCEPT for the slope areas and lack of traction issue.

I'm looking forward to meeting with the CTB member (see previous posts from Ken Johnson) who has already done what I'm investigating. His inputs should give me all the information I need to make a final decision as to whether I should purchase of a BX in place of my B1700.

Thanks for your inputs and questions. Both have helped me to think about this issue.

Harry, I mow my lawn with a JD4100 (R4 tires), which is heavier than your B1700 and I have no problem with turf damage. My tires are NOT filled. You can always remove your tire fill and add ballast through removeable wheel weights, box blade, ballast box, ect... for loader work.
